When Would We Opt for Veneers?

Posted on: Tuesday, October 17th, 2017

Have you ever seen before-and-after photographs of a movie star who had bad teeth when she was young and beautiful teeth when she was famous? The way this used to be done was with crowns. Every tooth in her mouth would have been drilled down and covered with a crown, which meant a lot of anesthetic and discomfort. Since then, dental technology has developed veneers, thin, custom-made porcelain shells that fit over the front of a patient’s teeth. They can correct a variety of problems in a flash.

Now, a smile can go from discolored, uneven or gapped all the way to glorious in just a few weeks. Here’s some of the problems that can be corrected with veneers:

  • Poorly shaped teeth
  • Chips or cracks
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Staining from antibiotics
  • Darkening after root canals

Even moderate misalignment can be corrected with veneers!

Unfortunately, for some people, living with problems like the above means that they are unhappy showing their teeth. They avoid smiling or laughing and may cover their mouth with their hand. Improving their smiles with veneers can make a dramatic difference in their feeling of self-confidence and that can make a difference in their mood and even their success in life.

The first step on the way to a more beautiful smile is a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for veneers. We’ll discuss how many veneers might be needed to achieve the effect you want. If you want to improve your entire smile, we can decide on the brightness and color you want for that new smile.

We offer our patients Lumineers, a superior type of veneer. It is thinner than earlier veneers, but still very strong. With older, thicker veneers, one millimeter or more of the front of your teeth needed to be drilled away to make room for them. With Lumineers, there is no need to remove any enamel from your teeth. The only preparation required is a slight etching of the front of your teeth to ensure that your Lumineers will bond well to your teeth.

If you have any of these problems and are considering improving your smile, contact us and let us show you how quickly your smile, appearance and self-confidence can improve.
